We found a great hair removal guide in May's Allure magazine and we thought we'd share...

How to prepare for a wax-body temperature makes a big difference. Waxing works best if your body is at a normal temperature, not too cold or sweaty. Exfoliating can prevent ingrown hairs. We recommend Peter Thomas Roth Botanical Buffing Beads Body Wash for prevention and Blinc Resurf.a.stic or glominerals Ingrown x-it Solution to help heal ingrowns. Wait at least 24 hours post wax to exfoliate.

What can you do to reduce the pain? We recommend Gigi Anasthetic Numbing Spray. It'll take the edge off.

How often should you wax? It depends on the area of the body. It's a good idea to wait about 4 weeks in between because the hair needs to be at least 1/4 inch long in order for the wax to grab.

If you decide to wax yourself-Make sure you choose a product that works for your hair type and carefully read all of the instructions before you start. We recommend bliss-poetic-waxing-microwaveable-waxing-kit.

We're still obsessing over Jennifer Lawrence's Oscar hair - big sexy waves, with volume AND shine. Roman, GBS' stylist in our Fort Lauderdale salon, shares the scoop on how to get the look:

1. Apply L'anza Healing Style Design Mousse to damp hair. Blow dry 2-in sections with Olivia Garden's Nano Thermic Round Brush while turning the brush several times to add subtle roundness to the length.

2. Avoiding the top, take a 1-inch vertical section of dry hair and mist with Moroccan Oil's Luminous Styling Spray. Wrap the section around Babyliss' large barrel curling iron and hold for 5 seconds to set the curl. Release and repeat in the same direction until all sections are done.

3. Run fingers through hair to break up the "piecey-ness" and finish with the styling spray for added hold.

Living Proof Tells us "How to Have the Perfect Wedding-Rain or Shine

We all want to get married on a perfect day—the sun is shining, a cloudless sky, a warm breeze—but what can you do if you see rain in the forecast? This past weekend, one of the Living Proof employees attended a wedding that was supposed to take place outdoors in a beautiful botanical garden but instead it was moved inside due to inclement weather. What’s a bride to do?

Here’s the Living Proof line of defense!

1. First and foremost, make sure you have your hairstylist use Living Proof’s No Frizz line when washing and styling your hair so it’s protected with our patented PolyfluoroEster technology. No Frizz coats each strand with a shield that blocks humidity without leaving an oily, greasy residue.

Tip #1: Always discuss an emergency “back up” hairstyle with your stylist so if it does rain you you won’t feel panicked or unprepared.

Tip #2: Updo’s are preferable on rainy days since any type of “damage” is less noticeable. If you’re planning for an up do, wash your hair the day before the wedding rather than the day of the wedding. Just-washed hair is more difficult to style since there is less grip and tack.

We are so excited to be working with GBS Beauty where we will have our products available to you and be able to share some of our beauty and fashion secrets!

In our two salons, I’ve always believed that fashion begins on the runway. It’s extreme and avant-garde but there is always something every day men and women can take that serves as an inspiration for the next season’s look.

My philosophy on beauty is that it is about taking the inspiration and customizing it to suit your personal lifestyle, face shape and be fashionable. The most important thing is you feel secure, comfortable and confident wearing these looks.

The biggest challenge is making sure you can replicate the looks at home. And, that comes with education from a professional and the right products.

Spring was the season where the red carpet events had a big influence on what was hot. Messy buns, braids and we saw a slew of the Hollywood crowd parting ways with their locks. Which, for a hair dresser is like winning the lottery…short hair is in.

We did the hair for over 30 shows for Spring 2010 New York Fashion Week and I wanted to share with you some of the key looks for the season!

Soft, Bouncy Blow-Out as seen at Carlos Miele

The clothes at the Carlos Miele show were so exquisite that I wanted the hair to be very natural. We created slight movement on the ends of the hair, so it bounced as the models sashayed down the runway.

How To:

1. Prep with Cutler Protectant Treatment Spray on damp hair. This will protect your hair from heat styling while treating your hair from past damage.

2. Next, spray Cutler Volumizing Spray from roots to ends and blow-dry. This alcohol free formula will add amazing volume and not weigh your hair down!

3. Once dry, use a large barrel curling iron, wrapping the hair around the curling iron, starting at the ends and rolling the barrel up to the roots

4. Finish the look by applying Cutler Definition Cream and brush hair loosely with a flat paddle brush

5. Set with hairspray for a natural-looking hold

Effortless Glamour as seen at Tadashi Shoji

To evoke the glamorous detail seen in Tadashi Shoji’s rich and wearable collection, I wanted to recreate an up-do commonly seen on the red carpet – soft, effortless and stylish.

How To:
1. Prep with Cutler Protectant Treatment Spray on damp hair. This will protect your hair from heat styling while treating your hair from past damage.

2. Next, spray Cutler Volumizing Spray from roots to ends and blow-dry. This alcohol free formula will add amazing volume and not weigh your hair down!

3. Comb hair to the back of the head and brush it out for smoothness

4. Loosely twist hair on the side sections of the head, gather all the pieces into an intricate bun and pin

5. Set with hairspray for a natural-looking hold

Organic, Effortless Curls as seen at Luca Luca

The unique, bright color combinations and tight silhouettes of the clothes at Luca Luca were very spring-inspired. To celebrate the ‘springy movement’, Teddy Charles (lead stylist for the show) gave the models natural, bouncy curls.

How To:
1. Prep with Cutler Protectant Treatment Spray on damp hair. This will protect your hair from heat styling while treating your hair from past damage.

2. Next, spray Cutler Volumizing Spray from roots to ends and blow-dry. This alcohol free formula will add amazing volume and not weigh your hair down!

3. Once hair is dry, set with a small curling iron, wrapping the locks in a spiral technique starting at the roots

4. Release the curls and tease with a rattail comb, starting at the ends and working up towards the roots. Make sure to leave some curl at the ends of the hair

GBS, The Beauty Store is flying in celebrity hair stylist Kim Vo from Beverly Hills on Sunday, February 21, 2010, for a party at Blue Martini to celebrate Kim Vo’s hair care launch in all six GBS stores and salons across South Florida. Vo, a judge on Bravo’s “Shear Genius” television show, is also the style guru behind the celebrity manes such Kate Hudson, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Goldie Hawn, Sylvester Stallone and Jenny McCarthy.

More than 100 guests are expected to attend the private meet and greet which includes complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

Kim Vo is a celebrity himself through hundreds of magazine articles and TV shows, such as “Extreme Makeover” on ABC and “Daily 10” on E!® Entertainment. He pioneered many now in-vogue techniques used by colorists everywhere, like “American Tailoring,” and hair “dusting.”

GBS, The Beauty Store is helping to give a little beauty back to the community again this year! In a grassroots effort to promote the recycling of unloved and unused beauty appliances, including hair dryers, irons and straightening tools, GBS is encouraging South Florida to “dump their junk” at their neighboring GBS store.

In exchange for a donation of an old styling tool, GBS patrons receive a generous $20 off professional styling tools from HAI, including the Convertible Ceramic Iron and SST hair dryer, Rusk “go green” blow dryer or Rusk “go green” flat iron.

Customer’s “trade-in” styling tools must be in working condition as GBS is going to donate all of them to women at The Lodge Miami and Women in Distress of Broward County. Both of these organizations are publicly funded domestic violence centers that serve women in need. They offer counseling, emergency shelter, and crisis intervention. The products will be given to women who are re-entering the workforce.

June Is Hand and Foot Care Month at GBS

During June GBS will be having events and specials that center around caring for our hands and feet. Be on the lookout for these events at your local GBS and let’s get our hands and feet in shape for the summer. –

The skin of our hands is very fragile. Hands dry out easily, especially because we expose them to detergents, sun exposure and other cleaning products without adequate protection. These factors plus harmful sun rays accelerate the dehydration of our hands. Here at GBS we carry many products to help protect and rehydrate your hands. Try Healing Balms and lotions from Qtica Or one of the cream from Ahava, Burt's Bees, Crabtree & Evelyn or Archipelago.

Of course, taking care of your feet is just as important. We all want to stay active and comfortable throughout lives. A good foot care regimen can go a long way toward this goal. The good news is that foot care can be simple, easy and even relaxing.

Care for your feet regularly to keep calluses under control. Use a pumice stone or an abrasive foot scrub to remove the dead and rough skin. Look for Mehaz or Tweezerman to help. Give your feet a foot bath. Use OPI’s Pedicure soak in the water to soften and put a few of marbles in the bath water and roll your feet around on top of them to stimulate the nerve endings. Get a foot massage once in a while. Try one of OPI’s Manicure/Pedicure creams available in a selection of flavors for a sensational treat for your feet. Finally, use a good moisturizer every day, like Avoplex. And for nighttime foot care, put a generous amount of cream, like Ahava’s Dermud Foot Cream, or OPI’s Pedicure creams on your feet before you go to bed then pull on a pair of cotton socks. The socks will lock in the moisture while you sleep!

GBS has two new employees amd they are very happy to show them off.

One is a Danielle Muzac who will be working as a make-up artist at the GBS Boca Raton location, at 21302 St. Andrew Blvd. Make sure you stop and say "Hello" the next time you are in the store!

Meet Danielle:
Danielle has been doing make up for over 9 years, she got her start at a very early age. She did her first wedding at age 16. Her first counter job was at Origins, which also taught her the skincare side of the trade. Then he branched off to work with M.A.C. She was with them for four years and is currently a freelancer for them. Danielle worked on numerous weddings, bar mitzvahs, fashion shows, and photo shoots! She was even lucky enough to do an Ed Hardy Fashion Show.

The second person is Javier "Harvey” Soto yes you heard me right Javier is back in town and is working at the GBS Aventura location. WELCOME BACK JAVIER.

Javier used to work for Joe Blasco as a Trainer for their make-up artists. Soon after leaving Blasco he went to work for GBS and worked out of several GBS locations before settling in at the Aventura store. While working at GBS Javier also did the make up for the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders Calendars for about 5 years.

After Moving to Dallas, TX, Javier went to work for M. A. C. Now he is once again back with the GBS in Aventura. Welcome Back Javier!
